George Clinton Chapter, NSDAR announces 2 writing contests

George Clinton Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution announced two essay contests: • The annual American History Essay Contest for students in grades 5-8; • The Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest for students in grades 9-12. Both are open to any student in the stated grades. Essays are due to the George Clinton Chapter by October 28. The topic and specific rules for the contests have been sent to administrators and teachers in the grade-appropriate buildings in Clinton County. Parents, if your child’s school has chosen not to participate in the essay contest but your child would like to participate, you may contact: Mrs. Kanyuck for the fifth- through eighth-grade contests for all of the rules of the contest; or Mrs. Sharp for the high school contest. Grades 5-8 contest The American History Essay Contest (grades 5-8) topic for this year is “Delegate to Second Continental Congress.” The Second Continental Congress met from May 10, 1775 to March 1, 1781 and included delegates from all 13 colonies. This Congress was instrumental in shaping what was to become the United States of America. Imagine that you are a delegate during 1775-1776. Which colony are you from and what will be important for you to accomplish for your colony? Length of the essay should be: grade 5 — 300 to 600 words; and grades 6, 7 and 8 — 600 to 1,000 words.
