Sutherland is a two-time CBC Literary Prize winner. She first won the 2021 CBC Nonfiction Prize for her essay, ‘Umbrella.' Then in 2022, she won the CBC Short Prize for her story ‘Beneath the Softness of Snow.' The 2023 CBC Nonfiction Prize is currently open for submissions! You can submit original, unpublished works of nonfiction up to 2,000 words. Memoir, biography, humour writing, essay, personal essay, travel writing or a feature article are all accepted. The prize is open for submissions until Feb. 28, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Sutherland wrote about her writing residency and why such experiences are important for writers.
