CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio – Chagrin Falls Intermediate and High School students competed in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition hosted by the Cleveland Institute of Art, with 6 students (Kate Bartlett, Samantha Holtz, Oakleigh Neithhammer, Charles Taylor, Chole Nightwine, and Claire Rubin) advancing to the national finals held in New York City. Select artists and writers who received the Gold Key Award advance to the Scholastic Art and Writing Exhibition Finals in New York City. National medalists of the Scholastic Art and Writing Exhibition will be announced on March 22. The top portfolios from across the country are presented to a scholarship committee that awards 8 art and 8 writing $10,000 scholarships. Chagrin Falls Middle School Student Chloe Nightwine was awarded a Gold Key for her drawing submission of “Cousins” by the Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition. Chagrin Falls High School Art Teacher Libby Harrold believes the district was well-represented in the competition. “Our students were highly successful in this year’s competition,” Harrold said. “In total at the high school, there were 6 gold key award winners, 8 silver keys, and 18 honorable mentions, at the middle school there were 3 Gold Key award winners, 1 silver key, and 3 honorable mentions.” This year the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition received 3195 submissions from students across Northeast Ohio.
