author 2.jpeg FLEMINGTON, NJ – A 14-year resident of Flemington has released her first published book, a rom-com and mystery mashup inspired by her work as a lawyer. Monica Hoopes published “Seriously Murder,” a story about two recent law school graduates who bungled their way through their first murder case and met a crazy cast of characters along the way. “I am a lawyer with an MFA in creative writing, so with this book, I was able to combine two passions into one,” she said. Hoopes said she has published a variety of short stories and poems in the past, and has been writing as long as she can remember, but this is her first published book. “I first developed my love of books when my dad gave me a copy of ‘A Light in the Attic’ by Shel Silverstein in third grade,” she said. “By eighth grade, I’d finished my very first book with the encouragement and support of a wonderful English teacher from East Amwell Township. Writing has always been my passion.” Hoopes said life always got busy with family and work, but she is excited to be back with her writing. “It feels wonderful to rediscover a part of myself that had gone missing for a while,” she said.
