Jana Kramer on winning roles, writing songs, and warrior mentality

I’m certain that we haven’t interviewed anyone who is as talented and multi-hyphenated as the one and only Jana Kramer . Settle in, you’re in for a real treat. Zach: Today we’re joined by actress, country star, podcaster, author, mother, you name it…Jana Kramer. Welcome! Jana Kramer: You’re very sweet. Thank you. Zach: I’m curious, was acting always the dream? Was that the goal from the beginning? Jana: It was, yeah. I actually grew up in a really musical family. My dad, he was in multiple bands and stuff. He was in wedding bands. He was in polka bands. He had his rock band that would always rehearse in the basement. So I grew up very musical, but acting was on the forefront. So when I was in high school and all my girlfriends are taking the SATs and applying for colleges, I’m like, “I’m going to Hollywood. I’m gonna be an actress.” And they’re all like, “Good luck with that.” Music didn’t happen until later. When I was waitressing in New York, I was 18 and I met Randy Jackson. He was like, “Do you sing?” I was like, “Oh, no, not at all.” Zach: Wow, that’s crazy. Zach: You had an insane run in the aughts. You worked on films like Click and Prom Night . But you also had the recurring role on Friday Night Lights as Noelle. Can you take us through that that experience? Jana: Friday Night Lights was hands down one of my favorite sets. It was Friday Night Lights and Entourage – were my top two favorite sets to be a part of. With Friday Night Lights , there was no mark you had to hit. It was just like, there’s no rehearsal. Just straight action. And at first I’m like, “Oh my gosh.” We’re trained to hit our mark. Zach: Exactly. Jana: With this show it was like, no, they’ll find you. And I loved that aspect of shooting.
