Lobb started writing the manuscript that would ultimately become her debut YA novel, she set out to write a book for herself. “I wasn’t trying to impress anyone—it was a compilation of all the things I liked,” Lobb says, noting that she wrote seven other books before this one. “And perhaps there’s something to be said for writing a passion project like this, because wouldn’t you know it, that’s the one that landed.” Seven Faceless Saints is a YA fantasy that tells the story of Rossana “Roz” Lacertosa and Damian Venturi as they navigate the corrupt system within the city of Ombrazia. Hungry for revenge after her father’s murder, Roz is ready to take on the powerful saints and their disciples that rule the city. Even if it means joining the rebellion and facing Damian, the youngest captain in Palazzo security history—and a boy who once broke her heart.
