Poe on Stage writing and performance workshops start Oct. 15

The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society invites participants for an eight-week Poe on Stage writing and performance seminar to be held from noon to 2 p.m., starting Saturday, Oct. 15, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. The unique series offers participants an opportunity to explore their artistic selves from within the creative process itself, while working collaboratively with others doing the same. The group will experience a dramatic reading of several stories and poems by Edgar Allen Poe, and after reading and discussing the works, they will identify the pieces that speak most to them. Working with a skilled mentor, participants will turn those texts into scripts for a staged performance before a live audience. The program is open to adults and high school students; participants will meet on Saturdays throughout the fall and winter. The final public performance will take place Saturday, Jan. 28. Facilitator Paul Huey-Burns teaches 11th- and 12th-grade literature at an independent school in Potomac, Md., and taught previously at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore.
