‘Sword of Truth’ Author Terry Goodkind’s Secluded Nevada Home and Writing Studio Head to Auction

The desert estate in Boulder City, Nevada, of the late Terry Goodkind—bestselling author of the epic fantasy series “Sword of Truth”—will be auctioned off later this month. The Goodkind estate, about 30 minutes from Las Vegas, comprises two adjoining properties, each with its own residence: the 6,455-square-foot main house with mountain views and a 1,712-square-foot guest house that served as the author’s writing studio. Both feature the area’s emblematic red-tile roofing. Selling agent Amber Barthomolew of Desert Sun Realty first listed the 3.76-acre property for $5 million in early 2022; the price was most recently reduced to $4.328 million in late 2023. Seller Jeri Goodkind said she and her husband, who died in 2020, embarked on a years-long renovation of both structures when they purchased the estate in 2002 as their primary residence. “We took what was in the Rancho style, with crumbling tile, and made it a little contemporary yet still livable,” she noted, pointing out the stacked-stone facing added to the original stucco exterior. “Our plan seems to have worked because everyone who comes in comments on how elegant but inviting the space is.” MORE: First, He Bought the Most Expensive Home in Tennessee—Now, He’s Looking to Set a Record in San Francisco The home is being auctioned without reserve by Concierge Auctions from March 29 to April 11, with the opening bids expected to be between $2 million and $3 million, according to Barthomolew. A grand motor court circles past the portico and intricately carved entrance doors of the main house and attached three-car garage. Covered parking for four additional vehicles exists elsewhere. Inside, a grand foyer sets the stage with an arched wood ceiling and graphic tile flooring that Goodkind said was designed by the author using a mix of black granite, onyx, and coppery Santiago marble squares.
